SO I would love to do a post about shears but upon doing research I am led down the rabbit hole once again of complete crazy nonsense that is the world of Hairdressing. Bare with me as I try to make sense of it all. Marketing in the hair industry is just so absolutely horrible. I dont know how these companies make it. Is it just because thats all we have to pic from? I mean I am absolutely glad that there are companies out there (mostly british) that have paved the way for a better tomorrow but i am not sure it will ever cross the pond.

What is it about our industry that attracts such ridiculousness? While I think it needs work as a whole, I do think that it has to do with the fact that its an inexpensive career choice. What does that leave us with? Well I think it leaves us with a lot of uneducated idiots. I really hate to be harsh but its true. At least in Europe its a somewhat respected career choice, but here in the states it is looked at as not much more than a dropout career, and what do we do about it? They have tried to rescue us….. Toni&Guy by the graces of a higher power came straight to Dallas, Texas to give us a chance. I think they did a terrific job but it cannot stop there. Have you ever been to a trade show? I have had the privilege/misfortune (?) of working many tradeshows, and this my friends is ground zero for the absolute worst of the worst.

I am talking about walking out of whatever convention center you were sentenced to, wondering if this industry really is for you. Between Meatloaf doing a long layered clipper cut to ACDC, to the Vegas style, and I stress the word STYLE, Farouk show, complete with dancing boys, Keoki, and strobe lights. Now sure, this kind of thing can get the run of the mill, disconnected, superdiscount hairdresser a bit excited. Maybe at least for the free Tshirts, but for me, this isnt going to cut it, and I dont think I am alone.

I am not a 13 year old girl and I do not need pink equipment, or color changing shears, and I definitely dont need some self righteous uber queen telling me what the look of 2012 is!!!(deep breath)This is the point of this website, to bring to you the cream of the crop. No matter what kind of cream or where the crop is. But people, pickins are slim! Dont get me wrong. I know its out there. I know there are amazing people doing amazing things. We all still have to deal with this industry though. I am not willing to just laugh it off anymore. It needs to change. We need class. Sorbie class, Mascolo Class, Sassoon class. When these companies get too big to maintain quality control things start going south, it never fails. So the responsibility lies with us. The hairdresser. The people behind the chair. Lets keep it real…..classy.

    I really do hate how our profession is looked at a career that just anyone can do. It takes talent, thought, listening skills and much much more. For an example: my in-law has been asking me about cosmetology school. Not because she has a passion for hair or the beauty industry but because she wants out of college and thinks it will be easy. Her point is that she will have a license within a year as compared all the years that she has left in college and thinks that it’s just playing with manequins hair. I find it insulting that people think just anyone can do this and be good at it. Quite frankly I’ve only been able to trust my hair with with a total of 3 people ever and get reminded every few months when I get my hair “trimmed” by my peers that I should just stick with those that have always done my hair. Just because you like doing hair does not mean that you’re good at it or even should be doing it.

    Can I get an AMEN?!?!?!This industry is BULLSHIT PEOPLE!!! So now, you have been poorly educated, coralled by the State Board of Cosmetology, pimped by the crappy vision-less salon and USED by the product companies who are whispering in your ear and asking you to pass the utter bullshit on to your clients…telling you about all their anti-diversion efforts, spoon-feeding you lies and all the while groping around at the corparate teets from which you will suckle until you DIE a slow, meaningless DEATH! Ummm is that too harsh? Sometimes I think not…THE QUESTION IS THIS PEOPLE: WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT? WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO TODAY? I know what I’m going to do…
